Being a missionary during Christmas is awesome!! I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas season with your family and friends. May we ever strive to Remember Him!
Monday: December 23rd
Got to email friends and talk with family, very fulfilling and always brings me joy! :) Found a bunch of Book of Mormon VCR tapes, THAT was a throw back for sure, haha! We had dinner with the Sickels, a less active family, and showed them the Christ Child video. What a powerful testimony it bears of our Savior Jesus Christ being born in such humble circumstances!
How do you run VCR again? ;)
Tuesday: December 24th
Today was great, we baked a TON of cookies and I made a bunch of gift bags that we could take to all our people we teach as well as the members we work with. :) Such joy just fills my soul as I serve others with my whole heart this Christmas season!! Such peace, such joy, such love that comes from living the principles of this wonderful Gospel! We dropped off all the goodies, Roberta especially loved our surprise and we were equally surprised when she AND her family gave us presents right back! She truly does love us and I'm very glad she's been able to become comfortable with us missionaries. I mean, I've been teaching her since the very beginning! I'm definitely going to miss her whenever I get transferred, but I'm glad we as well as the Gospel has blessed her life in just 5 short months. :) Drove up to Montrose the night before to avoid a big snow storm and we stayed with the San Juan Elders. 5 Elders in one apartment on Christmas Eve.... oh gosh....
Trio Trouble!
Wednesday: December 25th
Merry Christmas!! My first Christmas as a missionary! WOW. So weird :) We opened a few presents in the morning, thank you!!!! <3
We then had district council in which I gave the training. We had a few changes in the district so it was good to get a new batch of missionaries for my district this transfer! Then we had a bunch of fun playing volleyball as a zone (about 40 missionaries). I called my crazy fam and opened some awesome presents ;) Thank you and love you! Today did NOT feel like Christmas in the slightest haha. At least it snowed at 10:29pm.... nice... ;)
Our piggy pig friend, haha :)
Thursday: December 26th
Today Elder Garstin had the very "clever" idea to walk out on some frozen pond while saying, "Don't worry, I'm safe." As soon as he said that the ice make a huge crack and he sprinted back to shore screaming like a little girl, haha! How do I control these savages? Oh wait... I'm also a savage so I guess we are all doomed ;)
We did some service and then had a very powerful lesson with Roberta where we invited her to be baptized!! She said, "I will, someday" and expressed some concerns and worries she had about whether her family would accept her joining a different church. Really, there is no such thing as joining the church. There is only becoming a better disciple of Jesus Christ! And if we all strive to constantly follow that principle, then naturally we will be led to where the Truth really is and accept the true Gospel of Jesus Christ! Roberta has come so far, and we can only continue to hope and pray that she further accepts the Gospel into her life as she comes closer and closer to committing.
Friday: December 27th
Today was a lot of planning, I had a leadership call with the President and with all the local district leaders in Junction and Montrose.
CRAZY STORY:
We took Elder Hibbits to the Great Basin Medical Clinic in Rita to get his eye checked out. One of the nurses at the clinic actually worked WITH MY MOM at the hospital in Monticello!! What?!?! How crazy is that! She asked us where we were from and said, "Are your parents Randy and Jenna LaRose?" Uhhhhhh..... Heck YA they are! ;) So cool. Elder Hibbits is alright thankfully. It started snowing like crazy and the driveway was really really slippery but we didnt die! Good thing the car only slid a "little" bit off the road... ;)
Hospital trip!
We had an amazing lesson with Pam Buldoc and she heartily accepted a baptismal invitation to be baptized on January 18th!! This is a miracle! She truly is humbled and prepared to receive this Gospel into her life and follow her Savior down to the waters of baptism. I await that day with great earnest!
Saturday: December 28th
Snowed a bunch. Today we filled up the font for a baptism for Arthur Stott!! He is 8 years old and is part of a great member family. :) Such joy comes to my heart seeing a young child of God take some of the first beginning steps in his life. The mission nurse made us stay in our trailer home for the rest of the day cause we three all got pretty bad pink eye... it sucks :( But even if we follow every standard as a missionary, we still experience hardships, sickness, and setbacks. Much prayer, studying, and thinking followed the day.
Sneak attack from Elder Hibbits
Sunday: December 29th
We got Pam to come to church!! She was surprised that she knew almost everyone there, funny how a small town branch works like that... ;) We three Elders taught the second hour lesson on the Restoration, it was really good to have Pam there. She enjoyed coming to church and looked forward to our next lesson with her on Tuesday! We went up to Norwood where we shoveled snow in 7° weather, awesome... ;) We taught Darrol part of the Plan of Salvation and had a great day. My companions are crazy haha... I live with a bunch of monkeys ;) So weird to be looking forward on the calendar seeing "2020" popping up. Time sure does fly when you're out in the middle of the desert, driving in the cold Rita, having a blast teaching crazy people and smelling like weed all the time... #OnlyInRita
ALSO: My next Pday is moved to Tuesday, the 7th, so just be aware of that. We have Zone conference on Monday that week :)
Love you all,
Elder LaRose <3
