WEEK #14 - Thug Mugs and Drug Rugs

I hope yall will find out why I chose this title for my weekly as you read... ;)

Monday: October 21st
Emailed my friends and family, always love talking with them! <3
Today we drove up to Norwood to work with a less active named Decker in his woodshop. He taught us how to make these AWESOME mugs.

Legendary Thug Mug in progress

They are made from drilling out Aspen trees and then attaching an ANTLER as a handle! That's SO Colorado, haha. Elder Gunson and I plan to go back next Monday to finish our mugs. We called them our thug mugs.... haha!
Nothins more Colorado moutainman then drinkin from a thug mug made from an Aspen tree and antlers :) I have become one with the Colorado Mountainman within me...

We had a lesson with Roberta and talked about personal revelation and how we must ask God for truth. I've personally had many questions in my life but I know for a fact that when I sought Heavenly Father's divine help that He answers!

Tuesday: October 22nd
There was some snow as I was driving through Dallas Pass to get to District Council. I also saw my first wild elk since I've been here in Colorado!

We had a great discussion about how to best work with the members and we boiled our conversation to, "love coupled with action is the key to working with the members." Just simply love others and help them act on their desire to share the Gospel with others! We had a really great talk with Tina about baptism, she really wants to be spiritually ready and wants our help. She wants to be ready by November 30th, awesome!! I know she'll be blessed so much in her life for this decision.

Wednesday: October 23rd
CRAZY STORY:
We talked with Dan in the morning and he lost his cat. I felt like we needed to say a prayer to find it so we did. But it was only until 8:30pm when Elder Gunson and I were in the area for Tina and we saw the cat! Dan said his girlfriend would leave him over this cat... dang gina! So I jumped out of the car and tried to get his cat from under the car. It seemed fine as my hand was slowly reaching out to it till it hissed and clawed my arm drawing blood, ouch! :)

My battle scars for Dan...

Dan came out and exclaimed, "the prayer was answered in full!" and he got the cat back. Haha, what the heck am I doing in Nucla catching cats for people... I love it! It showed Dan that God truly does answer our prayers because He loves us and knows our concerns no matter how small they may be, but we must have faith and trust in His own timing/will :)

We went over to Tina's house and her daughter Niki drew some adorable notes for us, she also told us that she wanted to get baptized the same day as her mom on November 30th!! The light of Christ that is in that little girl is SO pure and innocent, what a blessing little children are especially in setting a righteous example for the parents!

Naturita's definition of a house number sign.... savage!

Thursday: October 24th
We taught Dan the Word of Wisdom and he gladly accepted the invitation to start living it. What a blessing it is to see others accept a "higher and holier" pattern of Christlike living! We later on talked with Tina and we got her to say the closing prayer which was huge. She expressed her desires to God, asking Him to help her overcome addictions and to help her family find joy and peace in the Gospel. What a powerful demonstration of humility in her prayer. We all must strive to humble ourselves before God, and ask in all sincerity the desires of our heart! Remember, righteous decisions bring blessings. :)

Friday: October 25th
I've restorted to only eating bread...
That's all I have, just bread, toast, bagels, and then toasted bagels, haha :) If anyone has any easy quick meal suggestions I'm totally down, but my limit is probably 2-3 ingredients or else it gets too complicated for me haha! Mom don't worry about me I'm fine... ;) Besides my savage dietary standards, today we got to do weekly planning. It was truly a miracle to look back two transfers ago and see us go from teaching about 6 to 25 people! The Naturita area in the past has been notorious in the mission as being the "outcast" area, haha. Now we're becoming one of the most progressing areas. Like in Jacob chapter 5, Naturita may be in the nethermost part of the mission, but it definetly is a promised land! ;) Had another lesson with Roberta, she really loves reading the Book of Mormon but has asked not to force "religiosity" so.... we're still working on her haha.

Saturday: October 26th
Today we had a BUNCH of traffic today in Nucla! We didnt move our car for like 10 minutes. And guess what... it was because we had a whole HERD of cows being herded in the middle of the road!! That's about all the traffic we get... when people herd their flippin cows in the middle of the road, haha! :) I love it out here in the middle of my desert.

We went over to Tina's house for a lesson. We asked her if she was clean from her addictions still, and she wasn't. She had a couple setbacks so we showed a video about how no one is beyond saving or beyond Christ's love. After she put her head in her hands saying, "I just don't know how. I don't deserve that." Here was this wonderful person who has been struggling most of her life. Then she gets a glimmer of hope from the Gospel and attempts to leave behind her addictions, but they only hold onto her more tightly. And now she thinks she doesn't deserve the Savior's love. That pained me, I began to cry just thinking of how wicked Satan is for crushing Tina's hope for recovery. The fact that Satan could be so evil to manipulate and even destroy her desire to change is sickening. We luckily taught her a few helpful things, but please pray for Tina. And please know that NONE of you reading this are undeserving or unworthy of receiving the Savior's love and forgiveness. You may feel hopeless, but God is the God of Hope. Turn to Him and He'll be there already waiting.

Drug Rug Stylin...

Sunday: October 27th
It's a miracle! We got Dan to church! He really enjoyed it and connected well with the speakers. He even said he'd love to come next week! We taught him more from the BOM when we met with him later. He told us that he can definitely feel a difference with the Spirit when he's reading the Book of Mormon and keeping the commandments versus when he's not. We talked with the Dyers and Jasper this time was flinging naked barbie girls at us, that was NOT appreciated, haha!

This week was insane. A lotta highs and lows but ultimately in the end I still love my Savior, my family, my friends, and my mission. What else is there? ;)

Love you all,
Elder LaRose <3
