WEEK #13 - Sunday Showdown, Got Oatmeal Anyone?

(sorry!! The mom forgot to send this one out :( enjoy!)

What a week to remember!

Thank you for all who have reached out to me through email, it's really helped!

Monday: October 14th
Today I got to cook....ELK meat! I ate it for dinner, it was really good and I was proud to have breaded, cooked, and spiced it myself :)

Cookin some elk meat!

We had another lesson with Roberta talking about personal revelation and how it's so important to find truth for ourselves as we trust God to give us the right answer. During one of the hardest moments in my life I felt like I needed to open my scriptures. I had no clue why or how these scriptures would help with my situation. I randomly opened my book to Isaiah 30:20-21. It reads:
"20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:
21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left"
In this life we NEED food and water to survive and grow physically. But in order to grow spiritually we must also have adversity and afflictions. Without these we wouldn't be able to overcome and become! The only way we can truly become who our Heavenly Father expects us to be is to walk in the way of trials, and be comforted knowing they will be for your benefit. Trust in Christ, and follow Him so that your burdens may be light! (Matt 11:28-30)
'Rita's Sunrise :)

Tuesday: October 15th
Today was cold. I sat on the floor heater in my trailer home eating my bowl of oatmeal... I hate oatmeal... but I'm poor so I can't afford cereal... so I LOVE oatmeal, haha! :) Then I drove to Montrose for District Council which was great.
CRAZY STORY:
We were walking by and saw this family outside so we decided to go talk to them. We started helping them move some beds into their apartment only to find out that this family used to live in Monticello!! They are the Tibbets and actually remembered my family :) I even went to elementary school with their daughter Nadege and their son went to 1st grade with my sister Londyn!! WHAT?! This family moved away from Monticello when I was in third grade, little did I know that they moved to NATURITA!! What an awesome blessing to randomly find a family here on my mission that legit knows me from Cello haha, hopefully we can bring them back into the Gospel :)

Wednesday: October 16th
Had a powerful lesson with Tina. I felt prompted to have her read Matthew 11:28-30 and she burst into tears midway and the Spirit filled the room! I know that we never truly can break the love that God has for us, even when we discard His influence through sin, there is ALWAYS a way back to His loving embrace! I believe Tina felt a little bit of that as she continues to trust God and overcome setbacks she's been dealing with for many years.

Thursday: October 17th
I smell like weed....
My clothes smell like weed....
I am weed.
Morning Sprints time....

Haha, it's such a great time over here on the mission even if this town is encircled with weed, I still love them all! Today was fun, we got to stop by this lady who lives in a RADIOACTIVE junk yard! It's full of really really old cars that were used in Uravan back when the Uranium mines were in function so they still have radiation on them.... hopefully I dont die within the next few years, haha :)

Friday: October 18th
Went to the church and saw ANOTHER car wreck right outside! The car was so destroyed that they had to life flight the guy, holy cow things are going down in Rita!! Wow, I hope he's alright.
ANOTHER car crash outside the church!

I got to play my friend Brannon in chess (he was there for the first chess game but just watched me destroy Jonathon). I played Brannon in chess but Elder Gunson doesn't know that you're not supposed to help the other side! Haha. I lost. But then I won fairly, against ONE person not two the next game haha. We actually got to tie chess into the Gospel seeing how we must rely on our faith in God to help us make the right moves or else Satan is going to catch us offgaurd and checkmate our king (in a sense Satan will attack the very center of who you are!) Satan doesnt care about pawns, all he wants is to destroy your very core, your king. So don't let your guard down and don't lower your defenses! Even if we make mistakes, which we will, we can overcome them through relying on Heavenly Father to help us throughout these trials! ;) I love chess and its Gospel applications. I realized today that I wouldn't of gained anything if I won, but that for Brannon it meant everything to him for me to lose. :)

Saturday: October 19th
Continued to help Tina with her addictions, we taught step 6 which is Change of Heart. We have to ask God to help us change our desires. Tina's had a few setbacks recently which is really hard for me to see, I really want her to truly feel the power of Christ's Atonement in her life it's just her choices are leading her away from His love. :( My heart goes out to all those who are struggling, please know that you can turn back to Christ, for He can heal and change your heart! Today we tried to go over to Matt and Jamie's but they are STILL at court for their kid. Pretty sad, we even found out the police illegally arrested them and broke a ton of laws in the process. Holy cow, Naturita has more drama than an elementary school relationship! We went over to Michelle's house for dinner. Luckily Jasper was NOT naked... :) But as we were watching a Book of Mormon video with them their 7 year old daughter was TOTALLY trying to put her head on my arm, IT WAS SO AWKWARD!! Haha :) She even got PINK lipstick ALL over my white shirt. Being a missionary... whatta life, haha! Well that happened.

Trailerhome's legendary view... I LOVE my trailerhome.... ;)

Sunday: October 20th
Happy 20th! Today was probably one of the most CRAZIEST Sundays I've ever been to on my mission so far. It started with us getting Tina and her 3 kids to church... first off she tried to back out of coming at least 5 times but after I raked her yard for her and we found her lost phone she finally got in the car and headed towards church with us following right behind her, haha! She smothered her cigarette on her shoes and then walked inside the church with us... oh gosh :) We were late but we sat in the front with Tina and her kids. Her 2 year old, Brentley, was doing pretty good until he started running up to the stand. Then he started jumping ON the sacrament table!! I had to hurriedly run up and snatch him down and he kept squirming in my lap. Then Tina tried to keep him under control and he started throwing a HUGE fit about having to sit still. Of course the Branch didnt mind this at all, it was just another sacrament meeting with a crazy and loud toddler. Nothing different ;) But Tina was obviously ultra stressed cause this is her FIRST time at church! It's probably hard for a newcomer to feel welcome after their kid "disrupts" everything, but to my surprise multiple members in the Branch followed Tina as she left the building with Brentley and helped Tina know that it was totally fine for her kid to be a little bit obnoxious. It makes me wonder how bad I was when I was a little kid at church... I dont remember any of it but, sorry mom and dad! :) Tina looked super relieved to find out that everyone totally didn't mind and were there to help her with Brentley in the Nursery if she wanted. It was so awesome to see the Branch accept her so quickly after just meeting her :) What a CRAZY first church experience for Tina and her family haha! Hopefully she'll come again next week, that may be a little bit harder to accomplish now though... After church Elder Gunson and I did our facebook posts and then we checked up on Tina and you WON'T believe it! We asked her about church and she told us joyfully, "I really liked your church, I think I'm going to go next week!" WHAT?! Holy cow, what a miracle. I'm so glad the Spirit was there at church to help her feel at home along with the immediate support she got from the Branch. Dang gina, I love my mission!

Love you all,
